Judge's Comment

The object of this display home was to promote energy efficiency, to minimise heating and cooling, hot water and lighting costs, and in turn reduce greenhouse emissions. Many principles such as passive design with shading, insulation, thermal mass, double glazing were incorporated into this house. There is a mixture of insulated cavity brick, brick veneer and reverse brick veneer walls blended into the house, showing customers various construction options. Rainwater is collected and used for the laundry and landscaping. Water efficient toilets, taps and shower roses are used throughout. Gas boosted solar water heating, compact fluorescent down lights, and a photovoltaic power supply all reduce running costs and greenhouse gas emissions The house achieves a 6.6 star rating for thermal performance, has very good solar access for all the living spaces and provides for a flexible indoor / outdoor lifestyle with low environmental impact and low running costs.
